Friday, May 17, 2019   -  $125

Spend a spring day on the Chicago River learning about its intriguing history.

First we tour the Chicago Maritime Museum at its new home in the Bridgeport Art Center. Located on the once infamous Bubbly Creek branch of the river near the old Union Stockyards, the museum tells the story of Chicago’s waterways and their impact on Chicago’s history.

One of the fascinating displays is about the golden age of steamships in Chicago and includes a dive suit used in the rescue operation of the Eastland disaster in 1915. The museum’s pictorial archives will amaze you as you see how docks, wharves and railroad yards once lined the river and you’ll learn exactly how the flow of the Chicago River was reversed.

Later we board the new Odyssey cruise vessel, a 200 seat single-level boat which will offer an upscale three-course, full service luncheon. The glass-covered boat will offer an unparalleled 360 degree view of Chicago’s incredible architecture and the two-hour cruise will sail the river’s main branch as well as the north branch to Goose Island and the south branch to Chinatown.
