3Ms Tour: Merchandise Mart, Money and Manny's

Date: Thursday, March 31, 2016
Cost: $92

Money and our economy is on everybody’s mind these days and today a professional guide will join us to show us how Chicago business impacts the world economy. We tour downtown Chicago and the Loop to learn about Chicago’s leading business institutions.
The Merchandise Mart is interwoven into the fabric of Chicago’s history and has an important role as a leading innovator in culture, art, business and fashion.

Today a guide from the Chicago Architecture Foundation takes us on a special tour inside the Merchandise Mart,  the world’s largest commercial building and one of Chicago’s premier international businesses. The tour showcases the sumptuous ornamentation including Jules Guerin’s gorgeous murals illustrating commerce throughout the world. See how the building is a vibrant example of the designers' "city within a city" concept which includes shops, restaurants, showrooms, offices, exhibition space and its own elevated transit station. There will also be time to visit the Luxe Home kitchen, bath and building product boutiques on the main floor.

We also visit the Federal Reserve Bank Chicago Branch in its landmark building at LaSalle and Jackson. Outside, the Bank’s Corinthian colonnades rise 65 feet above the street. Inside, we visit the Money Museum, where we see millions of dollars in cash, and enjoy a guided tour, learning how the Federal Reserve system works. At lunch, rub shoulders with Chicago businessmen at Manny’s Deli and Coffee Shop, an institution since 1942. Enjoy a great cafeteria-style lunch, acclaimed for its famous corned beef sandwich, at a restaurant frequented by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and former Mayor Daley himself!
