An alumni-only pre-reception is new this year at the third annual District 214 Education Foundation Golf Open and Reception, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11 at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling.
The pre-reception, called the Alumni Golf and Gab, begins at 4:30 p.m. and is open to all District 214 alumni and guests. Both the Alumni Golf and Gab and the ensuing reception include food and dessert stations, entertainment from the Wheeling High School Jazz Combo and a raffle and silent auction, with prizes including Breckenridge and Lake Geneva getaways. Elk Grove High School teacher Ricky Castro, the 2017 Illinois Teacher of the Year, will speak at the event about the reality of need within the District and the Foundation’s support.
The Golf Open will feature brunch, 18 holes of golf, on-course contests and food prepared and served by District 214 culinary students. Proceeds fuel student success, innovation and lifelong learning at a time when nearly 30 percent of District 214 students live in poverty.
The day begins with a 10:30 a.m. registration and brunch; shotgun start is at noon. The pre-reception starts at 4:30 p.m. and the reception begins at 5 p.m. Prices are $250 for an individual golfer or $1,000 for a foursome. A reception-only option is available for $75, which includes the pre-reception for alumni. Raffle tickets are $10 each, or six for $50.
Sponsorships also are still available.
In the last year, the Foundation has empowered $16,000 in Advanced Placement testing for students who could not afford the exam, translating to hundreds of early college credits; college campus tours for more than 150 first-generation students and parents; $150,000 in student scholarships; breakfasts for in-need students; more than $200,000 in classroom innovation and student outreach grants; more than $30,000 in teacher-led projects and initiatives; and adult and family literacy programming that transforms the lives of generations in our community.
