Adult Education and Literacy is proud to start two Career Pathways for adults, one in Manufacturing and one in Health Care.

The Manufacturing Career Pathways has two entry points.  Placement will be dependent upon a reading test and a math test.  Students needing more help in these areas will start with the Bridge to Manufacturing Class and work on reading and math skills in the Manufacturing curriculum so they can learn content at the same time.  In addition to this content, students will study with an online software program for Manufacturing.  This class is offered online and students will be expected to do at least 6 hours of study per week for this 13 week online course.  Students who successfully complete this one semester class will be invited to join the Manufacturing Career Pathway Credential Class.

The Manufacturing Career Pathway Credential Class will continue to strengthen reading and math skills and prepare students to take 3 NIMS Credential tests for entry level positions in Quality Control (Measurements, Materials, and Safety, MMS) and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) in Lathe and Mill Operations.  Students will study from books and in labs to prepare for these tests with a teacher experienced in Manufacturing, while studying reading, writing, math, resume building, soft skills and interview skills with an Adult Ed Support Teacher. Classes will run 3 nights per week.  Students will be able to take the Credential Tests at the end of the 16 week semester and be ready to look for a job. Adult learners will be able to qualify for the numerous open positions in the local manufacturing industry and increase their earning power. Class Location: Wheeling High School 6:30 to 9:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays starting in August or January.

The Health Care Career Pathways also has two entry points.  Placement will be dependent upon a reading test and a math test.  Students needing more help in these areas will start with the Bridge to Health Care Class and work on reading and math skills in the Health Care curriculum so they can learn content at the same time.  In addition to this content, students will study with an online software program and choose Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant or Pharmacy Technician to study.  This class is offered online and students will be expected to do at least 6 hours of study per week for this 13 week online course.  Students who successfully complete this one semester class will be invited to join the Health Care Pharmacy Technician Class, which will start in January through Northwest Suburban College or they can go on to a program at Harper College to earn a certificate.

More information for the Health Care Pharmacy Technician Class will be provided later this fall.
