NEED FOR ADULT EDUCATION IN ILLINOIS
- 1.3 million residents without a high school diploma
- 2.73 million residents speak a language other than English as the primary language in their home
- More than 386,000 immigrants are currently residing in Illinois
IMPACT OF ADULT EDUCATION SERVICES
- Over 90 ICCB funded programs provide instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), and English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Approximately 96,000 students enroll in programs annually
- Over 16,800 students pass the High School Equivalency Test in Illinois annually
- 69% of those who are employed upon program entry retain employment
SUCCESS
- Increased reading and math levels, Evidence Based Reading Instruction (EBRI) turning out better readers showing higher learning gains, meeting NRS performance outcomes, developing transition initiatives moving students along career pathways and into post-secondary education and employment, and much more
